Olympic National Park Removes Temporary Quinault Bridge: Winter Access to Graves Creek Shifts to South Shore Road

The National Park Service has removed the temporary bridge connecting Quinault North Shore Road and South Shore Road at Olympic National Park in Washington State, effective October 22. Visitors heading to the Graves Creek area this winter will use South Shore Road instead. The park's Public Affairs Office in Port Angeles released the announcement on October 16.
According to the Park Service, the temporary bridge spans a culvert considered vulnerable to winter storms and high-water events, so the structure is removed ahead of the highest-risk season and access restored after that period passes. The Graves Creek area remains accessible via South Shore Road.
Olympic National Park encompasses nearly one million acres and more than 70 miles of wild coastline, combining glacier-capped mountains, old-growth temperate rain forest and rugged Pacific shore; the Quinault area is among its signature rain-forest landscapes. The park advises winter drivers to check current road conditions before setting out and to watch for changing weather along South Shore Road in the rainy season.
