American Water Charitable Foundation Awards $10,000 Grant for Financial Literacy Education in Iowa

The American Water Charitable Foundation announced on October 26 a $10,000 grant to Junior Achievement of the Heartland to support its JA Finance Park financial literacy program in Iowa. The grant stems from ongoing collaboration between the foundation and Iowa American Water and is part of the foundation's Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, centered on three pillars: Water, People, and Communities.
JA Finance Park immerses students in realistic budgeting scenarios where they learn to navigate budgets, manage essential household expenses, and connect financial choices with educational and career paths. The program includes essential services such as water and sewer, enabling students to comprehend how everyday costs affect financial planning. Junior Achievement of the Heartland reaches over 2,500 students ages 13 to 15 across a 24-county area every year.
Lysa Hegland, president and CEO of Junior Achievement of the Heartland, said the foundation's investment brings financial literacy to life for students and equips them with skills to make informed decisions about career opportunities and financial futures. Brad Nielsen, president of Iowa American Water, emphasized helping young people grasp how crucial household services integrate within their budgets, and Carrie Williams, president of the American Water Charitable Foundation, said the foundation takes pride in backing community-focused initiatives that provide high-quality learning experiences.
American Water, established in 1886, is the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the United States, serving approximately 14 million people.
