Mesa, Arizona Teen Indicted on Three Attempted Murder Counts After Shooting Involving Off-Duty Officer

MESA, Arizona: A 16-year-old boy has been indicted on three counts of attempted murder after a shooting involving an off-duty Mesa police officer and a security guard, the Mesa Police Department said in an October 26 statement.
A grand jury indicted Jesus Daniel Felix Lomeli Figueroa on October 19 on one count of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder, Mesa Detective Laura Cervantes said. He also faces three aggravated assault charges and two firearm charges.
On the night of October 10, Figueroa was denied entry to a private event at Versalles Reception Hall, near Stapley Drive and Main Street, then pointed a handgun at a security guard and fired, Cervantes said. He ran toward a vehicle, and the guard and the off-duty officer followed and fired at him. Figueroa and a man in a vehicle associated with him were hospitalized with wounds that were not considered life-threatening.
Figueroa is being prosecuted as an adult, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office said. Arizona law requires adult prosecution for juveniles ages 15 to 17 accused of certain violent felonies, Mesa police said.
