Ignacio, La Plata County, Colorado — The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced on October 27 that, with assistance from the Ignacio Police Department, it has arrested 59-year-old Blas Salazar on a charge of first-degree murder. The investigation began with a welfare check at about 5:05 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, when officers found the body of 31-year-old Herberta Lynn Salazar — Blas Salazar's wife — inside a home in the 600 block of Shoshone Drive in Ignacio; her fatal injuries were determined to be the result of a homicide. At about 1:04 a.m. on Sunday, October 25, Blas Salazar was located off County Road 521 in La Plata County with what appeared to be self-inflicted injuries, and was taken into custody by La Plata County sheriff's deputies and transported to a hospital. The CBI is the lead investigative agency, assisted by Ignacio police, and any additional charges will be determined by the Sixth Judicial District Attorney's Office. The charge is an accusation, and the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
