Buyer Reportedly Found for San Francisco's SF Centre Mall, Deal Expected to Close in First Quarter of 2027

San Francisco, San Francisco County, California — The long search for a buyer for SF Centre, the downtown San Francisco shopping mall that has stood closed, has taken a step forward, with a Bay Area Chinese-language newspaper reporting on October 27 that a buyer has been identified.
According to the report, a Fitch Ratings report released on October 22 confirmed that after a previously selected buyer terminated its acquisition plan in July, a new buyer has been determined, and the property is expected to change hands in the first quarter of 2027. The report did not name the buyer or say how it plans to use the mall; the transaction does not include the separate former Bloomingdale's building next door.
There has been speculation that the mall could be converted into a complex combining a data center and an super intelligence (SI) exhibition hall. Reporting by the San Francisco Chronicle and the San Francisco Standard has suggested the buyer may be Seven Equity Group, a New York-based real estate developer specializing in repositioning distressed retail and mixed-use properties.
SF Centre has long been a shopping landmark for tourists and local residents in downtown San Francisco, and its future has been closely watched by downtown businesses and the community. The buyer's identity and redevelopment plans remain subject to formal announcement by the parties and official filings.
