CME Group Brazilian Real Futures Set Daily Volume Record at 498,498 Contracts, About $9.2 Billion Notional

CHICAGO, Cook County, Illinois — CME Group announced that its Brazilian real futures traded 498,498 contracts on October 26, a single-day volume record equal to about 49.8 billion reais, or roughly $9.2 billion in notional value; the previous record was 191,325 contracts on September 28.
CME said offshore hedging demand rose after Brazil's presidential election result, driving the surge; about $2.5 billion had traded before the Brazilian market opened, roughly three times the year-to-date average daily volume. In the first half of the year, CME's combined Mexican peso and Brazilian real futures and options averaged a record $2.94 billion in daily notional volume.
