FDA Warns on October 27 Against Weight-Loss Product Demograss Premier: Lab Finds Hidden Ingredient Phenolphthalein

On October 27, 2026, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advised consumers not to purchase or use Demograss Premier, a product promoted and sold for weight loss on various websites, including innovacionnatural.com, and possibly in some retail stores. FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that Demograss Premier contains phenolphthalein not listed on the product label.
Phenolphthalein is a chemical that is not an active ingredient in any approved drug in the United States. Studies suggest it may increase the risk of cancer, the FDA said.
The notification is intended to inform the public of products potentially marketed as dietary supplements or conventional foods with hidden ingredients. These products are typically promoted for sexual enhancement, weight loss, pain relief and body building and are often represented as being all natural, and consumers should exercise caution before purchasing them, according to the FDA.
Health care professionals and consumers should report adverse events or side effects related to the use of this product to FDA's MedWatch Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program, online or by fax at 1-800-FDA-0178. The FDA said it is unable to test and identify all products marketed as dietary supplements that have potentially harmful hidden ingredients.
