Tuesday, October 27, 2026 · Justice · GSM News

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Iowa announced that David Bryant III, 30, of Terre Haute, Indiana, was sentenced on October 27, 2026, in Cedar Rapids, in Linn County, Iowa, to 202 months in federal prison. Bryant received the term after an April 16, 2026, guilty plea to possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and possession of a firearm during and in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and was sentenced by Chief Judge C.J. Williams.

In a plea agreement, Bryant admitted he was riding his bicycle in Cedar Rapids when officers tried to stop him. He refused to stop and officers had to tackle him. He had more than 50 grams of pure methamphetamine, a handgun, a scale, and $1,044 in cash.

Bryant admitted he intended to distribute the methamphetamine to other people, and that he possessed the gun in furtherance of his drug crime, using it to protect himself, the drugs and the cash.

Bryant must also serve a five-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system. He is being held in the custody of the U.S. Marshals until he can be transported to a federal prison.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily K. Nydle and investigated by the Cedar Rapids Safe Streets Task Force, composed of representatives from the FBI and the Cedar Rapids Police Department. The case file number is 26-cr-17.
