Floresville Man Sentenced to 216 Months in Federal Prison for Sharing Child Sexual Abuse Material Over the Kik App

A Floresville, Texas man has been sentenced in federal court in San Antonio to 216 months (18 years) in prison for distribution of child pornography, U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons for the Western District of Texas announced.
According to court documents, Jose David Carvajal Jr., 54, of Floresville in Wilson County, sent child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to others in a group on the Kik messaging app and bragged about sexually assaulting a young child. Carvajal had been part of the Kik group for more than six years. The FBI identified and arrested him and discovered he had sexually touched a child and taken pictures of her showering without her knowledge. A forensic review of his phone revealed he had collected hundreds of images and videos depicting prepubescent children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
In addition to the 18-year prison term, Carvajal was sentenced to lifetime supervised release and ordered to forfeit the items used to commit the offense. He will also pay $35,000 in restitution to seven victims and $5,000 under the Amy, Vicky, and Andy Child Pornography Victim Assistance Act.
Carvajal was arrested on November 30, 2023, and indicted on December 12, 2023, on one count of distribution and one count of possession of child pornography; he pleaded guilty to count one on November 13, 2025. The FBI investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy Thompson as part of Project Safe Childhood, the Justice Department's nationwide initiative against child sexual exploitation.
