National Parks Waive Entrance Fees on October 27 for Theodore Roosevelt's Birthday: Free for U.S. Citizens and Residents, Other Fees Still Apply

The National Park Service's official 2026 fee-free calendar lists October 27, Theodore Roosevelt's birthday, as a day when all National Park Service sites that charge an entrance fee offer free admission to U.S. citizens and residents. It is one of eight entrance fee-free days in 2026; the next is Veterans Day on November 11.
The NPS notes that only standard entrance fees are waived: reservation, timed-entry, camping and other amenity fees may still apply, and visitors should check their park's requirements in advance. Under the 2026 policy, fee-free access applies to U.S. citizens and residents only, while nonresidents pay the regular entrance fee and any applicable nonresident fees.
Roosevelt, the 26th president, helped create the U.S. Forest Service and expanded national parks, monuments and wildlife refuges, earning him the label of the conservation president.
