Thailand Posts Four-Language Scam Warning Signs at Myanmar Border, Including Chinese, Against Job-Lure Trafficking

Sunday, October 25, 2026 · World · GSM News

Thai police on October 25 erected warning signs in Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese at three sites in Sangkhlaburi district, Kanchanaburi province, on the Myanmar border, alerting travellers to scams that lure victims with fake high-paying jobs through Thailand into Myanmar, where they are forced into telecom fraud — a trafficking chain that has repeatedly ensnared Chinese victims.

The signs were ordered by Sangkhlaburi police chief Colonel Santi Phitaksakun and placed at Chong Ua in Prang Phle, Rantee Bridge and Nam Khek in Nong Lu, all near routes toward the Three Pagodas Pass into Myanmar's Kayin State. The area across the border around Phaya Tong Su is known for scam compounds, with crossings typically made at night using waiting vehicles.

The signs list seven self-check questions: Are you in a border area? Are you being routed through Thailand? Does the high salary require no experience? Is the job description vague? Have you faced threats or violence? Have your passport and belongings been taken? Is the job linked to a scam gang? Anyone answering yes to several should get away and seek help immediately, police said.

Thai security forces recently helped two Japanese university students, aged 20 and 21, escape in the same border area. Police urged citizens of all countries, including Chinese nationals, not to trust overseas high-salary job offers on social media.
