A chain-reaction crash on Interstate 64 in Albemarle County, Virginia, killed a 58-year-old woman early on October 27 after a tractor-trailer struck her vehicle and pushed it into a gooseneck trailer traveling in front of it. The Albemarle County Police Department said the tractor-trailer driver, Nachalie Amaro Burgos, 30, of New Jersey, has been charged with felony involuntary manslaughter and is being held without bond.

In an information release issued on the morning of October 27, the county police said the Albemarle County Police Department, the Virginia State Police and Albemarle County Fire Rescue were dispatched at about 12:51 a.m. to mile marker 109 on Interstate 64, following reports that a tractor-trailer had struck a vehicle, causing the vehicle to collide with a gooseneck trailer traveling in front of it.

The driver of the vehicle, Sally Tripp, 58, of Fishersville in neighboring Augusta County, was transported to UVA Health in serious condition and later died from her injuries, police said.

Police said Burgos was charged with felony involuntary manslaughter (Va. Code Sec. 18.2-36), failure to obey a highway sign (Sec. 46.2-830) and driving too fast for conditions (Sec. 46.2-861). She is being held at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond. The charges have not been adjudicated in court.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Albemarle County Police Department's Traffic Unit.
