AMD Says Helios Rack-Scale Systems Are Running at Meta: $1 Billion Investment in Meta's Equity Offering, EPYC Processors Power the Muse Agent

Chipmaker AMD announced in Santa Clara, California, on October 27 that its Helios rack-scale solutions are running at Meta, that AMD EPYC processors power Meta's Muse personal agent, and that AMD technologies provide Day-0 support for Meta models including Muse Spark Open and Muse Glimmer. AMD also said it will invest $1 billion in Meta's equity offering.

AMD said initial Helios rack-scale systems are installed and being tested by Meta on the path to a broader deployment in the near future. Meta has deployed millions of EPYC processors across multiple generations and is a lead customer for 6th Gen EPYC CPUs; the companies are also collaborating on future generations, including 'Verano.' AMD Instinct GPUs are currently used in production in Meta's infrastructure for training, ranking, and recommendation engines; Meta was an early definition customer for the Instinct MI450 architecture and will deploy a custom Instinct GPU optimized for its workloads, with the collaboration also informing future platforms including the MI500 series.

On software, AMD and Meta have worked together to advance ROCm through PyTorch so developers can leverage AMD GPUs out of the box; AMD delivered Day-0 support for Muse Spark Open models on Instinct GPUs and for Muse Glimmer on Ryzen AI PCs and Radeon GPUs. The companies have also expanded their software collaboration to large-scale training, optimizing recommendation models on Instinct MI350X GPUs and contributing improvements to PyTorch, Triton, and ROCm for other developers.

'Meta is a strategic partner for AMD, and we have built this partnership through years of deep technical collaboration,' said Lisa Su, AMD's chair and CEO. 'With Helios now running at Meta, we are taking that partnership to a new scale in the superintelligence era. Together, we are building and deploying infrastructure at gigawatt scale and shaping future generations of silicon, software and systems to enable Meta's most ambitious superintelligence models and services.' Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's founder and CEO, said: 'AMD has been a key partner in building out the compute that's running our frontier models. We're making big investments in the computing power that will enable us to bring personal superintelligence to everyone, and AMD plays an important role in that.'
