A federal jury convicted San Francisco, California resident Cankun He on October 22, 2026, of conspiracy to commit an armed carjacking targeting a marijuana courier transporting approximately $370,000 in cash. The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of California (USAO), and the jury's verdict followed a four-day trial before Senior U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice press release from the Northern District of California, evidence presented at trial showed that He conspired with Jordan Cantie and at least one other individual to target the courier. On May 18, 2023, He surveilled the area in Daly City, San Mateo County, California, where the courier was expected to arrive, and alerted Cantie and his partner when the courier appeared. Cantie brandished a gun at a neighbor walking by with her children, then blocked the courier's van with their black SUV, held the courier at gunpoint, and he and his partner handcuffed the courier and drove away with the cash and the van.

He is the third defendant convicted in connection with this investigation. Co-defendants Jordan Cantie and Robert Maynard pleaded guilty on July 29, 2026, and July 22, 2026, respectively, to conspiracy to commit robbery affecting interstate commerce in connection with a separate incident. Both await sentencing.

U.S. Attorney Craig H. Missakian and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Special Agent in Charge Scott Schelble made the announcement. He is currently in federal custody. A second trial on an additional count of conspiracy to commit robbery affecting interstate commerce against He and two additional co-defendants is scheduled for November 30, 2026, with a pretrial conference on November 17, 2026, and jury selection on November 18, 2026. He faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, and any sentence will be imposed by the court after consideration of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and 18 U.S.C. section 3553. The prosecution is the result of an investigation by the FBI, with assistance from the Daly City Police Department, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christine Chen, Anupam Dhillon, and Kevin Yeh are prosecuting the case.
