Long Beach, Los Angeles County, California: Bay Shore Neighborhood Library Closes From October 26 for Restroom Renovation Until Early 2027

Tuesday, October 27, 2026 · City · GSM News

The Bay Shore Neighborhood Library (195 Bay Shore Avenue) in Long Beach, Los Angeles County, California, closed temporarily starting October 26, the city said. The library building, which opened at its current site in 1959, will undergo restroom renovation work to improve accessibility, and the closure is expected to last until early 2027.

According to the City of Long Beach Public Works project page, the renovation will convert the existing restrooms into fully accessible, all-gender facilities, relocate the electrical panel, modify hallway and office walls, upgrade lighting and plumbing fixtures, replace interior finishes, and install a new drinking fountain. The project is part of the city's Elevate '28 Infrastructure Investment Plan, with construction running from September 2026 to December 2026. It is funded by Measure A, the sales tax approved by Long Beach voters in 2016 and extended indefinitely in 2020.

While the branch is closed, staff will remain available at the front entrance to assist with book pickup and drop-off, and afternoon to-go pickup service will continue, the city said. Weekly story times will be held at off-site locations. Residents can also visit three nearby branches, all open Tuesday through Saturday: Alamitos Neighborhood Library (1836 E. Third St.), Brewitt Neighborhood Library (4036 E. Anaheim St.), and Los Altos Neighborhood Library (5614 E. Britton Dr.). More information is available at lbpl.org or by calling 562-570-7500.
