Gaza Families Face a Fourth Winter in Tents as UN Aid Stalls and Kerem Shalom Crossing Closes Tuesday

Tuesday, October 27, 2026 · World · GSM News

Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip are about to spend a fourth winter in makeshift tents since the current conflict began, according to UN News. UN aid operations continue to face obstacles: on Tuesday, Oct. 27, Israel closed the Kerem Shalom crossing for an election day, halting aid deliveries through the crossing.

Kerem Shalom, in southern Gaza, is one of the main cargo crossings for aid entering the territory. UN agencies say closures directly affect deliveries of food and winter supplies, while families living in tents and temporary shelters face wind, rain and cold that flimsy tents cannot withstand, making winterization supplies urgently needed.

Large numbers of Gaza residents have been displaced since the conflict began, and many families have already spent three winters in tents. The United Nations has repeatedly called for unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza and for more tents, tarpaulins and winter supplies to be allowed in.
