Newsom to Attend Media Preview of California Science Center's New Air and Space Center in Los Angeles Wednesday, Joins Conversation on California's Innovation Economy

Tuesday, October 27, 2026 · California · GSM News

California Governor Gavin Newsom will attend the media preview of the California Science Center's new Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, and join the center's President and CEO Jeffrey Rudolph for a conversation on California's innovation economy and its tradition of aerospace innovation, the Governor's Office announced in an October 27 scheduling advisory.

The new center is a roughly 200,000-square-foot expansion of the California Science Center. Its centerpiece is the world's only complete, authentic space shuttle system displayed in launch position: the orbiter Endeavour will stand vertically in launch configuration together with its external tank and a pair of solid rocket boosters. The media preview is a key stop ahead of the center's public opening.

Endeavour was the last space shuttle orbiter built in the U.S. fleet. It arrived in Los Angeles after its retirement in 2012 and has been displayed at the California Science Center ever since; the new center will be its permanent home. California is a heartland of the U.S. aerospace industry, home to institutions and companies from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory to numerous space firms — the backdrop for holding the conversation at the Science Center.

The conversation will be livestreamed on the Governor's official YouTube, Facebook, X and Instagram pages. GSM's Live channel will carry the talk tomorrow morning, and GSM will publish a full follow-up report after the remarks.
