Drake 'Janice STFU' Copyright Lawsuit Dropped by Accuser Less Than Two Weeks After Filing

Tuesday, October 27, 2026 · Music · GSM News

A copyright lawsuit accusing Drake of stealing the chorus of his hit 'Janice STFU' has been voluntarily dropped by the accuser less than two weeks after it was filed, Billboard reported.

Songwriter Aviel Hirschfield sued earlier this month, alleging that the chorus of 'Janice STFU' — from Drake's album 'ICEMAN' — was copied word-for-word and note-for-note from a demo he had sent to production duo FnZ, and seeking a co-writing credit and a retroactive share of publishing royalties. Drake's team categorically denied the allegations in a statement to Billboard, saying there was 'not one iota of truth' to them and accusing the plaintiff of manipulating metadata. On Oct. 27, Hirschfield voluntarily dismissed the suit; the reason for the withdrawal was not disclosed. 'Janice STFU' spent two weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and has drawn more than 370 million streams. (Source: Billboard)
