Trump Says He Will Ban the Term 'AI / Artificial Intelligence,' Pushes 'Super Intelligence' Instead

Tuesday, October 27, 2026 · Technology · GSM News

President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post on Oct. 27 that he would officially ban the term “AI / Artificial Intelligence” in all relevant documents “and everything else,” calling it a “very bad and inaccurate name” and demanding it be replaced with “Super Intelligence” (SI).

“When will The Wall Street Journal start calling Artificial Intelligence (AI), a very bad and inaccurate name, SI (Super Intelligence), the name which virtually everyone else is using, or soon will be,” Trump wrote. “In short order, we will be officially BANNING the term, ‘AI/Artificial Intelligence,’ in all relevant documents, and everything else, due to its inaccuracy.” Reuters and Variety were among the outlets reporting the remarks the same day.

It is not Trump's first push for the rename. On Sept. 30 he signed an executive order titled “Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence,” directing federal departments and agencies to replace “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” with “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official communications and operations to the maximum extent permitted by law, covering government correspondence, public communications, official websites, reports and policy documents; previously issued regulations, existing contracts, grants and historical records are not retroactively altered.

Trump did not specify when the newly announced ban would take effect, which agencies it would cover, or whether a further executive order would implement it.
