Asian Voters' Early Voting Draws Attention in Dallas and Tarrant Counties, Texas, as Racist Attacks Become a Mobilizing Force

Tuesday, October 27, 2026 · Society · GSM News

In the North Texas region around Dallas in Dallas County and Fort Worth in Tarrant County, Texas, the mobilization of Asian voters in early voting for the 2026 midterm elections is drawing attention. According to an October 27 report by American Community Media, recent racist attacks targeting Asians have instead boosted Asian voters' enthusiasm, and community organizations and civil rights groups are helping voters understand the voting process and overcome language barriers. Nina Oishi, an attorney with the Texas Civil Rights Project's Voting Rights Project, reminded voters that they may bring someone they trust to assist them, including a family member who can translate, which is both legal and encouraged; voters with disabilities or mobility challenges may also request assistance such as being moved to the front of the line. The report also noted that language assistance differs by county: Harris County must provide ballots in Chinese and Vietnamese, while Dallas and Tarrant counties must provide Vietnamese ballot information. Civil rights groups also urged media not to repeat unverified rumors of immigration enforcement at polling places, so as not to deter voter participation. Voters with questions about registration, polling places or voting procedures can call the nonpartisan Election Protection hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE; calls are referred to trained volunteers and, when necessary, escalated to legal teams. With a week left before Election Day on November 3, Asian voters in the Dallas-Fort Worth area can still cast ballots during early voting.
