Long Beach Holds Second Free Sandbag Distribution November 7 at LBCC Liberal Arts Campus

The City of Long Beach, in Los Angeles County, California, announced that its second free sandbag distribution with Long Beach City College (LBCC) will be held on Saturday, November 7, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the LBCC Liberal Arts Campus (4901 E. Carson St., in Lot M), where city staff will help residents load up to 10 sandbags into their vehicles. The first event was held October 24 at LBCC's Trades, Technology and Community Learning Campus.
When the city announced the events on October 16, it said three consecutive storms had already caused significant coastal flooding and damage to public and private property, and that a potentially severe 2026-27 winter storm season influenced by El Niño makes early preparation important. Empty sandbags are also available to residents and businesses at all Long Beach Fire Department neighborhood stations, including Station 7 (2295 Elm St.), Station 12 (1199 E. Artesia Blvd.), Station 13 (2475 Adriatic Ave.) and Station 14 (5200 E. Eliot St.); attendees are encouraged to bring their own shovel or other tools to fill bags.
The city said coastal areas are especially vulnerable, but low-lying and flood-prone neighborhoods throughout Long Beach may also be affected during heavy rainfall, and placing sandbags in advance can reduce property damage. Residents are also advised to clean gutters and drains, inspect roofs, secure loose outdoor items, check storm updates at longbeach.gov/emergency and sign up for Alert Long Beach notifications.
At the city level, Long Beach proclaimed a local emergency on September 22, following Governor Newsom's September 21 emergency proclamation, allowing extraordinary preparedness measures for the 2026-27 El Niño and winter storm season, and the city is coordinating response plans with local, regional, state and federal partners.
