Los Angeles County Opens Resident Survey on Budget Priorities for the $54.2 Billion FY 2027-28 Budget

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 · California · GSM News

Los Angeles County, California, has opened a resident survey on budget priorities for fiscal year 2027-28, inviting the public to weigh in on how they value county services ahead of the next budget cycle. Los Angeles County is the largest county government in the United States, serving nearly 10 million residents. The Board of Supervisors previously approved a final budget of $54.2 billion for fiscal year 2026-27, prioritizing housing and safety-net services, wildfire recovery, emergency preparedness and civic engagement.

The county said getting a broad view of how the public thinks about and values its services is an important part of the budget process. The survey asks residents to rank the relative importance of services including housing, public safety, health and mental health care, parks and transportation, and the results will be compiled for the Board as it considers the new fiscal year budget.

Under the county's process, the Board of Supervisors holds final authority over the multi-billion-dollar budget, which funds county hospitals and clinics, the sheriff and fire departments, parks and libraries, public works and social services. The county notes residents can also submit written comments or speak during the Board's budget hearings.

The county has expanded public engagement during budget development in recent years, including district-level events and online input. The survey and instructions are posted on the county's budget pages at lacounty.gov, and the county is encouraging residents to respond early in the survey period so their views are included before the draft budget is finalized.
