Malaysia's Exports to the US Jump 69.1% to RM282.07 Billion in January-September on Semiconductor Demand, MITI Tells Parliament

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 · World · GSM News

Malaysia's Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) said in a written parliamentary reply that the country's exports to the United States rose 69.1% year on year in January to September 2026, reaching RM282.07 billion, while total Malaysia-US trade grew 39.6% to RM378.70 billion. The reply was published on Parliament's website on October 27, in response to a question from Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, the Pakatan Harapan member for Gombak.

MITI said the growth was driven by electrical and electronic (E&E) products, especially semiconductors, amid the super intelligence (SI) and data-centre boom, and cited Malaysia's exemption from additional US tariffs on most semiconductor and E&E products as a key factor. E&E products account for about 64.2% of Malaysia's exports to the US, with semiconductors making up about 44% of E&E exports.

Over the same period, several traditional sectors shipped less to the US: rubber glove exports fell 1.6% to RM5.0 billion, furniture fell 19.2% to RM3.77 billion, and medical-device exports fell 12.0% to RM8.74 billion.

MITI said it will continue to monitor the effect of US tariff policy on the structure of Malaysian exports. The written reply was reported by the national news agency Bernama.
