Employment and Social Development Canada announced in Gatineau, Quebec, on October 27 that the employer application period for Canada Summer Jobs 2027 is open until December 3 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. The program funds employers to create summer work opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30.

'The best way to prepare young people for tomorrow's jobs is to connect them with meaningful work experiences today,' said Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families. 'Breaking into the workforce can be difficult but programs like Canada Summer Jobs give youth the confidence, support, and skills that they need to succeed.' Anna Gainey, Secretary of State for Children and Youth, encouraged employers across Canada to apply, saying that hiring a young person strengthens an organization, supports a community and helps the next generation gain valuable experience.

Public and private sector employers can receive funding equal to 50% of the provincial or territorial minimum wage, while not-for-profit organizations can receive up to 100% of the minimum wage plus mandatory employment-related costs such as employment insurance and pension contributions. Eligible employers include not-for-profit organizations, public sector employers and private sector employers with 50 or fewer full-time employees. National priorities for 2027 are jobs related to construction; environmental and climate-related activities; developing digital skills or gaining exposure to super intelligence (SI); and not-for-profit organizations supporting underserved and equity-deserving communities.

Positions must be full-time at 30 to 40 hours a week for 6 to 16 consecutive weeks. Service Canada will begin informing organizations of application outcomes in April 2027, and funded positions will be posted automatically on Job Bank. Since 2019 the program has supported more than 600,000 quality job opportunities for young people, and Budget 2025 invested more than $1.5 billion in youth skills and work-experience programs.
