New ELCA Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod Bishop to Be Installed October 31: Jennifer Dee's Service Set for First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) has announced that the installation service for its new bishop, the Rev. Jennifer K. Dee, will be held at 1 p.m. on October 31 at the First Presbyterian Church of Bethlehem in Bethlehem, Northampton County, Pennsylvania, with ELCA Presiding Bishop Yehiel Curry preaching and presiding at the installation.
Dee was elected in June at the synod assembly in Lake Harmony, winning on the fifth ballot with 215 of 308 votes cast, above the 155 needed, to become the synod's fifth bishop and its first female bishop. Her six-year term began on September 1. 'This new call comes with joy, hope and humility,' Dee said. 'It is a gift to serve the larger church, connecting people and congregations across the synod.'
Dee earned a bachelor's degree from Keene State College in New Hampshire in 1996 and a Master of Divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, now part of United Lutheran Seminary, in 2007, and was ordained in 2008. She served at St. John's Lutheran Church in Loogootee, Indiana, from 2008 to 2011, and then at Trinity Lutheran Church in Robesonia, Pennsylvania, until this year. The service will be held at 2344 Center Street in Bethlehem; the synod encourages registration to help with planning. October 31 is also Reformation Day.
