Directed by Michael Curtiz and starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, Casablanca is a defining classic of Hollywood's Golden Age. It won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and remains moving more than eighty years on. Set in wartime Casablanca, Morocco, the story brings former lovers together again, weaving love, duty and freedom into one question: when personal happiness conflicts with a greater cause, what should we choose? Its line "Here's looking at you, kid" has become one of the most famous in film history.
Zhou Tiedong will lead the session, discussing with the audience why Casablanca still moves viewers after more than eight decades, and how classic Hollywood filmmaking fused character, dialogue and storytelling to bring together love, war and human choice.
Da Xi Movie Night is Da Xi Hui's film-screening series, combining a film, a shared meal and discussion; a simple meal and tea are provided at this session. In the organizer's words, film is not just entertainment but a reflection on life. The Da Xi GROUP official website carries updates on its film programs and other activities.
