A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced on October 28 that Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, will pay a working visit to China from October 30 to November 1.

At the ministry's regular press conference the same day, spokesperson Guo Jiakun said China welcomes President Parmelin's visit and that President Xi Jinping will meet with him.

Guo noted that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the China-Switzerland innovative strategic partnership. China-Switzerland relations are developing well and cooperation across various fields has been fruitful, with free trade cooperation a particular highlight, he said. Switzerland was among the first countries on the European continent to sign a free trade agreement with China, and in the more than a decade since it took effect, the agreement has played an active role in promoting bilateral trade and economic exchanges. In August this year, Switzerland again became the first European country to complete negotiations with China on upgrading the free trade agreement.

China stands ready to work with Switzerland to create more benefits for the two peoples, provide more convenience for companies of both countries and inject more certainty into the world economy through the steady development of bilateral relations, Guo said.
