South Carolina Police Close Hayden Panettiere Death Case on Oct. 28: Coroner Ruled Accidental Drug Overdose, No Trauma Found

GREENVILLE, Greenville County, South Carolina — The Greenville Police Department announced on October 28 that it has formally closed the death investigation of actress Hayden Panettiere, whose death the coroner's office ruled an accidental drug overdose.
Panettiere starred in the TV series "Heroes" and "Nashville." On August 16 she was found unresponsive in a Greenville apartment and was pronounced dead at 2:31 p.m. despite resuscitation efforts; she was 36. The Greenville County Coroner's Office determined in September that she died from the toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol and quetiapine, and the autopsy found no traumatic injuries causing death.
Police had been investigating whether she obtained illegal or counterfeit drugs from a dealer in Southern California; the department's October 28 statement did not disclose any conclusion about the source of the drugs.
