MORGANTOWN, Monongalia County, West Virginia — West Virginia University police executed search warrants on Monday, October 26, at the Morgantown houses of the Lambda Chi Alpha and Pi Kappa Alpha fraternities as part of an ongoing hazing investigation.

Video posted on social media by the student newspaper, the Daily Athenaeum, showed officers carrying out multiple bags that appeared to contain evidence, while hundreds of students watched from sidewalks and nearby yards. Police said they would not release further details because of the nature of the investigation; no arrests or charges have been announced so far. Morgantown Police Chief Eric Powell said his officers assisted university police in executing the searches.

Notably, Lambda Chi Alpha had already been placed on interim suspension by the university on October 9, after campus police issued a warning following an anonymous hazing report on October 6. The university stressed that it takes student safety and well-being seriously and that the investigation is ongoing.
