North Carolina Attorney General Announces Tax Embezzlement Conviction: Onslow County Staffing Firm President Pleads to Three Counts Over $511,701

RALEIGH, Wake County, North Carolina — North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson announced in Raleigh on October 28 a felony tax fraud conviction in Onslow County, returning $511,701 in embezzled state tax money.
Defendant Jimmy John Brinkley pleaded guilty to three counts of embezzlement of state property. He served as president, treasurer and secretary of Select Staffing and Labor of NC, Inc., a company providing temporary labor to labor and construction firms. According to the Attorney General's office, the company withheld employee income taxes in tax years 2021 and 2022 without remitting them to the state, and underreported sales tax it collected in 2023, embezzling $511,701 in total. The case was investigated by the Criminal Investigation Division of the North Carolina Department of Revenue and prosecuted by the Attorney General's Special Prosecutions Section.
Jackson said the defendant broke the law and took taxpayers' money, thanked prosecutors for winning the funds back, and said his office will keep protecting North Carolinians from fraud.
