Pakistan Says Afghan Taliban Fire Kills One, Injures Five in South Waziristan Border District

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 · World · GSM News

Afghan Taliban forces fired on civilian houses and a market in Pakistan's Waziristan region near the two countries' border on Tuesday, October 27, killing one person and injuring five, a senior Pakistani administrative official said on Wednesday, October 28. The Deputy Commissioner of South Waziristan Lower said on X that Pakistani forces were 'responding effectively and heavily' to the 'unprovoked' firing.

Afghan Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment. The violence came days after the Afghan Taliban said problems with Pakistan could be resolved through diplomacy.

Pakistan and Afghanistan, once allies, have grown increasingly at odds over militancy: Islamabad accuses Kabul of harbouring militants who stage cross-border attacks, the Taliban government denies the charge and says militancy is Pakistan's internal problem. The conflict between the two neighbours has killed hundreds of people this year, according to Reuters.
