Honolulu Felon Penitila Faamoe Charged With Possessing a Firearm While on Bond in a Reckless Endangering Case Involving an Alleged Shooting

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Hawaii announced that Penitila Faamoe, 24, of Honolulu, Hawaii, has been indicted for illegally possessing a firearm and was ordered detained pending trial after appearing on October 27 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kenneth J. Mansfield. Faamoe possessed the firearm while out on bond in a state case in which he is charged with reckless endangering after allegedly shooting at a 25-year-old man. The federal indictment was returned on October 15, 2026.
According to court filings, Faamoe, a convicted felon, possessed a loaded revolver with an obliterated serial number on May 30, 2026. He was out on bond at the time. He had been charged with reckless endangering in the first degree after allegedly shooting at a 25-year-old man on January 23, 2025. That case is pending in state court.
If convicted, Faamoe faces up to 15 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, plus a term of supervised release. U.S. Attorney Ken Sorenson announced the charge. The FBI and the Honolulu Police Department are investigating the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeannette Graviss is prosecuting. The case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, a key component of Operation Take Back America.
The charge in the indictment is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. If convicted, any sentence would be imposed by a U.S. District Judge based on the statutory sentencing factors and the advisory U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
