Heavy rains triggered flooding and landslides in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, killing at least four people and cutting off dozens of communities, the Associated Press reported, citing authorities. Haiti's Civil Protection Agency (DGPC) said the provisional death toll in the country's southwestern region stood at four, with two fishermen also reported missing.

According to the DGPC, 21 communes were affected across Haiti and 3,209 families impacted. A total of 2,130 houses in Nippes, Grand'Anse, South and West departments were flooded, 847 homes were destroyed and another 219 sustained damage. Several rivers overflowed in Nippes, landslides affected roads in the southwest, communications remained difficult, and significant agricultural losses were recorded, with numerous plantations destroyed.

Haiti's Hydro-Meteorological Unit, in coordination with the DGPC, raised alert levels: Grand'Anse, Sud, Nippes, Sud-Est and Ouest departments were placed under an orange alert, while Artibonite and Nord-Ouest were under a yellow alert. The civil protection agency said it was gradually opening temporary shelters.

The weather system had persisted over the Greater Antilles for three days. Flooding was also reported in the neighbouring Dominican Republic, which shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti, as authorities in both countries continued to assess casualties and damage.
