Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, California Opens Dunhuang Library Cave Exhibition December 12 with a Talk by Artist Xiaoze Xie and Curator Tianlong Jiao

The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, Orange County, California, will open its new exhibition "Xiaoze Xie: Reimagining the Library Cave at Dunhuang" on Saturday, December 12, with an opening talk in the museum's Norma Kershaw Auditorium featuring artist Xiaoze Xie in conversation with curator Tianlong Jiao, discussing the creation and curation of the Dunhuang Library Cave project. Ticket prices for the talk are listed on the museum's website.
The Library Cave (Cave 17) at the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang was sealed in the early 11th century and rediscovered in 1900, holding more than 50,000 ancient manuscripts and paintings that have become a treasure trove for the study of medieval history, religion, art and language. Xie has spent years "reinventing" the cave's space and documents through painting, installation and video. The exhibition runs through April 25, 2027.
The Bowers Museum is located at 2002 North Main Street in Santa Ana; the 300-seat Norma Kershaw Auditorium hosts lectures, screenings and performances. Talk time and ticket information are at bowers.org.
