CFTC to Host Industry Roundtable on December 15 on the Viability of 24/7 Derivatives Trading

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced on October 28 that it will host an industry roundtable on December 15 to discuss issues related to the viability of derivatives markets moving to 24/7 trading. The dialogue will build on the CFTC's Request for Comment issued earlier this summer on 24/7 trading.
The roundtable, to be held at the CFTC's headquarters in Washington, will provide a public venue for dialogue on the evolving market structures shaping derivatives markets, including overnight trading, tokenization, infrastructure and staffing needs, and operational readiness. Participants from across the industry will discuss how the Commission can promote responsible innovation while protecting market participants and preserving the integrity and resilience of U.S. derivatives markets.
"I have been consistently clear: under my leadership, the CFTC will not take a one-size-fits-all approach to 24/7 trading. Market structure evolves best through thoughtful and responsible progress, and that's exactly why we're hosting a roundtable to hear directly from industry on their views for 24/7 trading across different asset classes," Chairman Selig said. The event will be open to the public and livestreamed on CFTC.gov; information on the agenda, speakers and registration will be posted at a later date. Members of the public may submit speaker nominations to [email protected]. The announcement is CFTC Release Number 9318-26.
