Pasadena Health Department Warns of Scam Calls Impersonating Public Health Officials, Spoofing State Health Number

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 · Society · GSM News

The Pasadena Public Health Department, in Los Angeles County, California, warned residents on October 28 about scam callers impersonating public health officials, with caller ID spoofed to appear as the California Department of Public Health.

The department stressed that public health agencies do not call residents to demand Social Security numbers, bank details or other sensitive personal information, and do not ask for personal data under pretexts such as prescription verification. Anyone receiving such a call should hang up immediately and not call back or share information.

Residents can verify or report incidents through the California Department of Consumer Affairs at (916) 558-1784, or the Pasadena Police Department at (626) 744-4241. Phone scams can also be reported online through the Federal Trade Commission's fraud reporting platform.

The warning involves the same type of scheme covered by a statewide alert from the California Department of Public Health last week; Pasadena's notice renews the warning for local residents.
