Claremont, Los Angeles County, California Weekly Update: El Niño Preparation Day Set for November 15 as Vote Centers and Ballot Boxes Open

Thursday, October 29, 2026 · California · GSM News

The City of Claremont, in Los Angeles County, California, published its City Manager Weekly newsletter on October 29. City Manager Adam Pirrie reported that on October 24 the Chamber of Commerce's annual Village Venture Arts & Crafts Festival filled the Claremont Village with more than 400 artisan booths, a costume parade, live music and food.

A focus of the update is preparation for heavy El Niño rains this winter. The City said it has cleared storm drains, evaluated potential flood areas, ordered equipment and trained employees in emergency response. On Sunday, November 15, the City will host a Community Preparation Day, with waste containers for bagged trash and yard debris in the parking lots of four parks: Padua Park (4200 Padua Avenue), Alexander Hughes Community Center (1700 Danbury Road), Blaisdell Park (440 College Avenue) and Joat Park (1717 N. Indian Hill Boulevard). Bulky items, electronic waste and hazardous waste will not be accepted. Free sand and sandbags are also available at Claremont fire stations; the Community Services Department can be reached at (909) 399-5431.

On elections, with the November 3 midterm approaching, ballot drop boxes are open at the Alexander Hughes Community Center and the Claremont Helen Renwick Library (208 N. Harvard Avenue). The vote center at Granite Creek Community Church (1580 N. Claremont Boulevard) opened October 24 and runs 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through November 2 and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day; vote centers at Claremont Unified School District (170 W. San Jose Avenue) and Condit Elementary School (1750 N. Mountain Avenue) open October 31. Los Angeles County voters may vote at any vote center in the county.

The update also noted that city offices will close on Wednesday, November 11 for Veterans Day, with Wednesday and Thursday residential refuse collection delayed by one day and the Police Department non-emergency line at (909) 399-5411; and that the Pooch Park will close temporarily from November 1 through December 1 for biannual turf maintenance, with other pet-friendly parks in Claremont and dog parks in adjacent cities available during the closure.
