The City of Long Beach in Los Angeles County, California, announced on October 28 that Tendaji K. Jamal has been appointed Director of the Technology and Innovation Department (TID) and will start on November 16, overseeing the city's information technology and digital services.

Jamal brings more than 25 years of public-sector technology leadership, with a background in cybersecurity, strategic planning and IT governance. He most recently served as Chief Information Technology Officer at Pasadena City College.

The city said Jamal will carry out the department's four-year strategic roadmap, known as TID28, and continue expanding user-friendly digital services so residents can handle more city business online.

The city also thanked Deputy City Manager Meredith Reynolds, who has served as acting director of the department since April 4, 2026, and will hand over to Jamal on his start date.

The Technology and Innovation Department runs Long Beach's government information systems, cybersecurity, data and digital services, the technical backbone for every city department.
