Los Angeles County, California: Calvin Lane Sentenced to 74 Years to Life in Sex Trafficking Case After Fleeing Trial

Thursday, October 29, 2026 · California · GSM News

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced on October 28 that Calvin Lane was sentenced on October 27 to 74 years to life in state prison for sex trafficking offenses in Los Angeles County, California. Lane fled during his trial, was convicted in absentia, and was later arrested by an FBI fugitive task force.

Prosecutors said that in 2023, in the Los Angeles and Long Beach areas, Lane used force to traffic a young adult woman and a teenage girl for commercial sex acts. In case No. 24CJCF04008, he was convicted of forcible human trafficking of a minor for a commercial sex act, human trafficking of an adult, pandering, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

After his bail was reduced, Lane absconded on August 26-27, 2025, during the trial. The jury continued without him and returned guilty verdicts on August 28. An FBI Fugitive Task Force that included a District Attorney investigator arrested him on September 21.

District Attorney Nathan Hochman condemned the trafficking of minors in a statement and said his office will keep prosecuting people who profit from exploiting the vulnerable. The case was investigated by the Long Beach Police Department and prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Emily Chai.

Prosecutors urged victims of sex trafficking and anyone with information to contact law enforcement for help.
