Humayun Kabir, Bangladesh's State Minister for Foreign Affairs, told a press conference at the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo on the night of October 28 that six government-level cooperation documents were signed during Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to Japan: four Memorandums of Cooperation, one Grant Agreement and one Letter of Intent. The Government of Japan also committed loans totalling about ¥46.56 billion, equivalent to approximately $295.5 million, for two development projects in Bangladesh.

Under the grant agreement, Japan will provide ¥2.12 billion (about $13.44 million) to supply one patrol vessel to strengthen Bangladesh's coastal and maritime security. The other documents cover a Memorandum of Cooperation between Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Bangladesh's Economic Relations Division on the business and investment climate, agricultural cooperation, fisheries and livestock development, the Employment for Skill Development Program (ESDP), and a Letter of Intent between the two environment ministries on climate change cooperation.

Of the loans, ¥15.88 billion (about $100.8 million) goes to the Investment Environment Improvement Project and ¥30.68 billion (about $194.7 million) to the Upazila Governance and Development Project (Phase 2). A further 17 Memorandums of Understanding were signed between the two countries' private sectors at the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). Kabir said Rahman's bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi was highly productive.
