Music: CHVRCHES Release New Single Overthinker; Fifth Album All The King's Men Due January 22
Scottish synth-pop band CHVRCHES released the new single Overthinker on October 28. It is the second single from the trio's fifth studio album, All The King's Men, due on January 22, their first album in nearly six years, since Screen Violence in 2021.
The band consists of Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty. The new song turns from the societal pressures of the first single, Roses, to complicated family dynamics, with Mayberry singing of a relationship in which the other person is both 'your shelter and your storm.' The album was written over several intense three-week stints in Glasgow and also includes Conman, which the band debuted earlier this year at the Teenage Cancer Trust series at the Royal Albert Hall.
On the night of October 27, the band played an intimate charity show for 100 fans at Assumption Studios in Glasgow, a converted church where the album was recorded. The 14-song set included the live debuts of eight new songs, and Biffy Clyro's Simon Neil appeared as a surprise guest. Another intimate London show follows on October 29, and the band has announced tours of the UK, Ireland and North America starting in Philadelphia in February, including a headline show at London's O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on May 6.
