Culture & Tourism: Grand Canyon Reopens Three Inner-Canyon Trail Sections After Flood Repairs; Bridges and Phantom Ranch Stay Closed

Thursday, October 29, 2026 · Culture & Tourism · GSM News

The U.S. National Park Service announced on October 26 that Grand Canyon National Park in Coconino County, Arizona, has reopened several inner-canyon trails following repairs to damage caused by recent flooding, restoring hiker access to the South Kaibab Trail below The Tipoff, the entire River Trail, and a section of the Bright Angel Trail.

The reopened sections are the South Kaibab Trail below The Tipoff; the entire River Trail, which connects the South Kaibab to the Bright Angel Trail; and the Bright Angel Trail between Mile-and-a-Half Resthouse and Havasupai Gardens, which is open to hikers only and remains closed to stock use while further repairs continue. Trail crews will keep working on the Bright Angel Trail, and hikers should expect intermittent closures and delays, with closure times subject to change on short notice.

The park notes that water will remain off at Mile-and-a-Half and Three-Mile Resthouses and at Havasupai Gardens for the rest of the winter season, so hikers must carry all their own water and appropriate filtration or treatment equipment. The Black Bridge, the Silver Bridge, Phantom Ranch and the entire North Kaibab Trail remain closed, and visitors who enter closed areas in violation of the closure order may be cited.
