FDA Updates Listeria Outbreak Investigation: Cases in Outbreak Ref #1417 Rise to 50, Product Still Not Identified

Thursday, October 29, 2026 · Life · GSM News

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) updated its foodborne illness outbreak investigation table on October 28: the case count for the Listeria monocytogenes outbreak listed as reference #1417 has increased from 46 to 50, the food product linked to the illnesses has not yet been identified, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.

According to the FDA table, the outbreak was first posted on September 23, 2026, and no recall has been initiated. FDA has initiated traceback, on-site inspection, and sampling work for this outbreak to identify the source of contamination.

FDA says people who think they have symptoms of foodborne illness should talk to their healthcare provider and public health officials and provide details of what they ate before becoming sick, which often helps solve emerging or ongoing outbreaks. The agency notes that investigations that do not result in specific, actionable steps for consumers may or may not conclusively identify a source or contributing factors.
