Pakistan Closes Airspace to Airlines From China's Taiwan Region: Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiakun Says the One-China Principle Is a Broad Consensus of the International Community

BEIJING — Pakistan's defense minister said on October 28 that Pakistan has closed its airspace to airlines from China's Taiwan region in adherence to the one-China policy. At the Chinese Foreign Ministry's regular press conference on October 29, 2026, a reporter asked spokesman Guo Jiakun for China's comment.

Guo responded: "The one-China principle is a broad consensus of the international community. As far as we know, there is no obstacle to the international travel of people in the Taiwan region."

The question was raised by a reporter from China Arab TV, who described Pakistan as the first country in the world to take such a measure against airlines from China's Taiwan region. Guo did not elaborate further on that characterization in his response.

Pakistan was among the first countries to recognize the People's Republic of China; the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1951, and Pakistan has consistently upheld the one-China policy on Taiwan-related issues.
