OCA New York Chapter Holds 50th Anniversary Gala on the Evening of Oct. 30; Pan Asian Repertory Founder Tisa Chang Receives Trailblazer Award

The New York chapter of OCA -- Asian Pacific American Advocates held its 50th Anniversary Community Service and Leadership Awards gala on the evening of October 30, from 6 to 9 p.m., at 100 East Broadway in New York City. Tisa Chang, the Asian American theater director who founded the Pan Asian Repertory Theatre in 1977, received the chapter's Trailblazer Award, with entertainment by Judo Club.
Chapter president Li Zhiqing said Chang's career embodies the spirit of the Trailblazer Award: breaking barriers, creating opportunities that barely existed, and building an institution that has nourished generations of Asian American artists. The award is among the chapter's most prestigious honors, given to those who open paths for the entire Asian American community. Chang was born on April 5, 1941, in Chongqing to diplomat father Zhang Pingxun, and the Pan Asian Repertory is one of the oldest Asian American theater companies in the United States.
