The Minnesota Wild lost 4-3 in overtime to the New York Islanders on the evening of October 29 at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota, ending their three-game winning streak and taking their first home loss of the season. Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer scored the winner just 33 seconds into overtime on a two-on-one, firing from the right faceoff circle off the left post and in for his second goal of the night.

Schaefer also added an assist, becoming one of the youngest defensemen in NHL history with 15 career multi-point games. For the Wild, Quinn Hughes, Joel Eriksson Ek and Matt Boldy scored, and goaltender Jesper Wallstedt made 22 saves; Bo Horvat and Adam Pelech also scored for the Islanders, who improved to 7-4-2.
