Thursday, October 29, 2026 · Sports · GSM News

University of Alabama sophomore small forward Amari Allen was named on October 29 to the preseason All-SEC first team as voted by the Southeastern Conference's coaches, becoming Alabama's only player selected to any of the three teams, The Tuscaloosa News reported on October 29. The honor came from a vote of the league's coaches; earlier this month Allen had been named to the preseason All-SEC second team in the media vote.

As a freshman last season, Allen played 32 games and started 24, averaging 11.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists, and led the team with five double-doubles.

Joining Allen on the preseason first team are Florida's Thomas Haugh (the preseason player of the year) and Rueben Chinyelu, Mississippi State's Josh Hubbard, and Vanderbilt's Tyler Tanner. The day before his first-team selection, Allen was also named to the 20-player watch list for the Julius Erving Award, which honors the nation's top small forward.

In October, Allen helped Alabama go unbeaten in three preseason exhibitions, including a 92-84 win over Ole Miss in which he scored 19 points and handed out five assists.

Alabama is ranked No. 18 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and opens its regular season against Sam Houston State at 6:30 p.m. on November 3 at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa.
