New Hampshire U.S. Attorney's Office Announces Election Day Integrity Steps for the Nov. 3 General Election

CONCORD, N.H. – The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Hampshire announced on October 29 that it is ready and able to protect election integrity during the November 3, 2026 General Election, as U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan unveiled the office's Election Integrity Strategic Plan.

Under the plan, Assistant United States Attorney Alexander S. Chen has been designated the district's Election Officer. He will oversee the handling of Election Day complaints involving voting rights concerns, threats of violence against election officials or staff, and election fraud, and will serve as a point of contact for reporting federal election crimes. Chen will be available in New Hampshire while the polls are open and can be reached at (603) 545-5152.

Federal election monitors, led by the U.S. Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division, will also observe compliance with federal laws on voter registration and eligibility at polling places across the state. The Justice Department may also receive and respond to reports from the New Hampshire Department of Justice and the Secretary of State's Office, jointly ensuring that problems voters encounter at polling places are investigated and handled.

The office listed three enforcement priorities for the 2026 election: protecting voter rights so that all eligible voters can vote free from discrimination, harassment, coercion or unlawful interference; monitoring compliance with federal laws governing voter registration and eligibility; and combating election fraud, including credible allegations of Election Day ballot tampering, voter impersonation, unlawful interference with polling locations, or fraudulent absentee ballot practices.

"Each election season, our office takes steps to ensure that all Granite State voters who want to cast a ballot can do so without any fear of interference or fraud," Creegan said. "We are committed to ensuring a free and fair election on November 3, and as always, will work with our law enforcement partners to combat and investigate any election crimes that threaten the integrity of voting."

Federal law prohibits threatening violence against election officials or staff, intimidating or bribing voters, buying and selling votes, impersonating voters, altering vote tallies, stuffing ballot boxes, and marking ballots for voters against their wishes or without their input. The Voting Rights Act also protects the right of voters to mark their own ballot or to be assisted by a person of their choice.

Complaints about voter discrimination or civil rights violations can be directed to the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division through its reporting portal or by phone at 800-253-3931. Potential election fraud or voter intimidation can be reported through the FBI Tips Portal or to local law enforcement, and violations of state election laws can be reported to the New Hampshire Department of Justice Election Day Hotline at 866-868-3703. Anyone facing possible violence or threats at or near a polling place should call 911 immediately. New Hampshire permits same-day voter registration on Election Day.
