American Military University (AMU) and American Public University (APU) announced on October 29 in Charles Town, West Virginia, that they will host the third annual AI and the Future of Education Conference on November 12-13, exploring how artificial intelligence is transforming teaching, student support, research and the broader educational landscape. The virtual event is free and open to the public, with registration available online.
Both universities are part of the American Public University System (APUS), which serves nearly 90,000 active students and has more than 173,000 alumni from over 80 countries. Conference discussions will focus on teaching and learning, student support services, professional innovation, ethics, accessibility and equity.
Keynote speakers include Dr. Monica Burns, a curriculum and educational technology consultant and former New York City public school teacher, author of EdTech Essentials: 12 Strategies for Every Classroom in the Age of AI and founder of ClassTechTips.com, who will discuss thoughtful AI integration in education; and Amanda Bickerstaff, co-founder and CEO of AI for Education, who will discuss strategies for responsible and equitable AI adoption in schools and higher education.
Session topics include AI-driven strategies for student retention, analytics and mental health support; building AI role-playing simulations; accessibility as a design standard rather than an afterthought; how educators use social media to navigate AI developments; AI applications in healthcare and STEM education; legal considerations for AI implementation in higher education administration; and ethical considerations and best practices for institutional review boards and research activities.
Dr. Elizabeth Joy Johnson, Provost of American Military University and American Public University, said AI literacy is becoming an essential part of preparing students for the future of work, and that the universities are exploring thoughtful ways to integrate AI into their programs while helping students develop the knowledge and skills to use these technologies responsibly and effectively.
