Over 155,000 Magnetic Toy Sets Warned Off the Market: Loose Magnets Can Perforate Children's Intestines, Largest Set Sold 145,830 Units on Amazon

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a batch of product safety warnings on October 29 urging consumers to immediately stop using four magnetic toys sold on Amazon, Shein and other platforms. The products' magnets are stronger than the federal mandatory toy standard permits and can come loose, or are themselves small enough to be swallowed by children. Together the four products sold more than 155,000 sets; all sellers are Chinese companies, and none has carried out a recall or offered a remedy as the Commission requested.

The largest is the LRIGYEH Magnetic Men stick figure set: about 145,830 sets sold on Amazon from February 2024 through October 2025 for about $7. Each set contains five or 10 flexible figures in purple, blue, yellow, red and green, with a small magnet in each hand and foot. When the figures are pulled apart, the magnets in the limbs are liberated; they exceed the permitted strength and fit within CPSC's small parts cylinder. CPSC issued a Notice of Violation to the seller, Guangzhoulanmazhadianzishangwuyouxiangon, doing business as MAZHA, of China, which has not agreed to recall the toy sets or offer a remedy.

The other three are: the TOP MAGNETS magnetic stick figure sets, about 7,723 sets sold on Amazon from June 2024 through October 2025 for about $9, whose seller, Hefei Ao Ze Trading Co., Ltd., has not responded to the notice; Honestcoolstore magnetic balls, about 1,600 sets sold on Amazon from November 2024 through July 2025 for about $35, each set containing 1,010 multi-colored 3 mm magnetic balls, whose seller Erdfvbvb has been unresponsive to CPSC's recall request; and magnetic building ball and stick sets from Shantou Huihuan Toys Co., Ltd., about 94 units sold on Shein from June 2024 through October 2025 for about $21 in 25-piece sets, whose seller has likewise been unresponsive. All four products were manufactured in China.

When high-powered magnets are swallowed, the Commission explains, they can attract each other or another metal object across the walls of the digestive system and become lodged there, resulting in perforations, twisting or blockage of the intestines, infection, blood poisoning and death — the reason magnetic toys of this kind have drawn repeated warnings and recalls over the years: the magnets are small enough to swallow and strong enough to attract through tissue, yet look like colorful desk toys.

CPSC urges consumers to stop using the four products immediately and dispose of them, and not to sell or give them away. Incidents involving injury or product defects can be reported through the Commission's SaferProducts.gov website. Parents with unbranded magnetic figures, magnetic balls or magnetic building toys at home can check them against the brands and platforms above and stop use first while verifying.
